November 1, 2003 - Press Release:
Palestinian Female Prisoner Amneh Mounah Begins Open Ended Hunger Strike After Attacks Against Her

Palestinian female prisoner Amneh Mounah has begun her sixth day of an open ended hunger strike, protesting against physical attacks against her and her continued isolation. On October 27, Mounah began refusing to drink water.

Israeli Military Appeals Court Considers Illegal Deportation of 18 Administrative Detainees to Gaza Strip

On 19 October 2003, three military appeals court sessions heard legal arguments in protest of the proposed illegal deportation of 18 Palestinian administrative detainees to the Gaza Strip. Detainees scheduled for "assigned residence" were given only 48 hours to appeal the deportation order.


August 25, 2003 - Urgent Action:
Grave Concern for health of detainees after 15 days of hunger strike

Ahmad Talab Mustafa Barghouthi, a 27-year-old resident of Ramallah, and Moussa Mohammad Salem Doudin, a 31-year-old resident of Hebron, have been on an open ended hunger strike for 15 days to protest their continuing to be held in solitary confinement.

First Palestinian Prisoner to Defend PhD Thesis in Israeli Prison

On 16 August 2003, Nasser Abdullah Abdel Jawwad Odeh, will defend his doctoral thesis from Megiddo Military Prison, the first time a Palestinian prisoner has been allowed to do so. Odeh, a 38 year old father of two from Deir Balout, was able to secretly complete his thesis, entitled "Islamic Tolerance Towards Non-Muslims", whilst serving a 12 year sentence.

This afternoon, Wednesday 6 August 2003, 338 Palestinian prisoners and detainees were released from Israeli prisons and military detention camps.

Selection of Palestinian detainees to be released solely reflects Israeli criteria

On the morning of 4 August 2003, the Israeli Prisons' Services published on their website a list of names of Palestinian prisoners and detainees expected to be released on Wednesday 6 August 2003. Addameer analysis reveals that all of the administrative detainees to be released were already scheduled to be released very soon.

February 6, 2003 - Press Release:
Palestinian female detainees harassed and threatened

On Thursday 30 January 2003, after an 8-day hunger strike in protest of their conditions of detention, Palestinian female detainees 'Abla Sa'adat and Iman Abu Farah were transferred to Ramleh Prison within Israel's 1948 borders. Upon arrival at the prison, the women were placed in a cell with Israeli female criminal prisoners, and were subject to extreme harassment and threats.


January 25, 2003 - Press Release:
Abla Sa'adat placed in administrative detention with 2 other Palestinian women

On the evening of 22 January 2003, Mrs. 'Abla Sa'adat, along with 2 other Palestinian women, Iman Abu Farra and Fatmeh Zayed, held at Beit El military detention center, were issued 4 month administrative detention orders. The women stated that they would begin an open-ended hunger strike unless they were transferred to adequate detention facilities, as Beit El has no capacity for female detainees.
