Israeli
Military Concocts "Suicide Bombing" Story to Cover-Up Shooting of Palestinian
Youth
Addameer has received a case of a 20-year old Palestinian
man from Jenin, Zeidan Mohammed Said Zeidan, who was shot and seriously
wounded by Israeli soldiers on 8 May. This case is significant not for
the fact that Zeidan was shot, but rather because the Israeli military
is attempting to cover up the fact of his deliberate wounding with the
claim that Zeidan was injured while attempting to carry out a suicide
bombing. The facts indicate clearly that this claim is a complete falsification
- Zeidan was shot and seriously injured while going about his daily life
and was then placed under arrest. He had no explosives with him, and there
is no evidence that he was injured by an explosion.

Free the Six Palestinian Political Prisoners in Jericho Prison!
On 25 April, 2002, four Palestinians were tried
in a kangaroo-court by the Palestinian Authority and sentenced to between
1 to 18 years in prison. The four were accused of involvement in the assassination
of the Israeli Tourism Minister, Rehavam Ze'evi, on October 17, 2001.
The four detainees, along with two other Palestinians who have not been
tried or charged, were transferred to a prison in Jericho under the supervision
of US and British "monitors." Addameer is calling for their immediate
release.
May 19, 2002 - Special Report:
THOUSANDS
OF PALESTINIAN DETAINEES IMPRISONED IN INHUMAN AND LIFE-THREATENING CONDITIONS
Following the most recent Israeli invasion of Palestinian
cities that began on March 29, 2002, the Israeli military has undertaken
a widespread campaign of arbitrary, mass arrest of Palestinian civilians.
Addameer has been following cases of those arrested and detained through
visits to detention camps and prisons, as well as collecting statements
from those who have been released. The conditions that detainees face
violate every principle of international law and present a real threat
to the lives of detainees. Addameer has collected many affidavits that
reveal a conscious process of torture and maltreatment to which thousands
of detainees have been exposed. The information in this report is based
upon affidavits from detainees and lawyers who have visited these detention
camps and prisons.

Palestinian
Prisoners' Day: THOUSANDS OF PALESTINIANS BLINDFOLDED, HANDCUFFED AND
TORTURED
On the occasion of Palestinian Prisoners' Day,
Addameer and DCI/PS call for the immediate release of Palestinian political
prisoners, including children. As of today, 17 April 2002, thousands of
Palestinians remain detained in Israeli detention centers throughout the
West Bank and inside Israel. In a wave of arbitrary mass detentions, thousands
of Palestinian prisoners have been rounded up by the Israeli military,
handcuffed, blindfolded and transported to detention facilities where
they are exposed to cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment. Over 10% of
these newly arrested are children. The detainees are denied access to
attorneys and information regarding their whereabouts is often unknown
by their families and human rights organizations.
